Tallow Balm vs Tallow Cream: Which Formulation Suits Your Skin?

DAEAR makes two types of tallow moisturiser: anhydrous tallow balms and water-in-oil tallow creams. Both are built on Australian grass-fed beef tallow — the difference is the formulation format, and each suits a different skin type and use case.

What Is an Anhydrous Tallow Balm?

An anhydrous formula contains no water phase. DAEAR tallow balms are made from grass-fed beef tallow, jojoba seed oil, sacha inchi seed oil and beeswax. The texture is a solid balm that melts on contact with warm skin, and applies best to damp skin — the existing moisture on the skin's surface allows it to spread evenly and absorb well.

What Is a Water-in-Oil Tallow Cream?

A water-in-oil emulsion blends a water phase and an oil phase together using emulsifiers, with oil as the dominant phase. DAEAR's Australian Botanical Cream is a water-in-oil tallow formulation — it contains the grass-fed tallow lipid base alongside a water phase that carries native Australian botanical extracts and allows both fat-soluble and water-soluble compounds to be delivered in a single product. The texture is lighter and faster-absorbing than an anhydrous balm.

Which Suits You?

Neither is objectively better — they are different formats for different skin needs and preferences.

When to Choose a Tallow Balm

The Earth, Lavender and Scent-Free balms suit people who prefer a concentrated, minimal-ingredient formula, use skincare primarily in the evening, have very dry skin, or want fragrance-free with the fewest possible ingredients.

When to Choose a Water-in-Oil Tallow Cream

The Australian Botanical Cream suits people who prefer a lighter, faster-absorbing texture, use their moisturiser in the morning under SPF, have combination or oily-feeling skin, or want native Australian botanical actives — Kakadu plum, quandong, Davidson plum and finger lime — in their daily moisturiser.

Can You Use Both?

Yes — many DAEAR customers use the Australian Botanical Cream in the morning and a tallow balm in the evening. This is a common routine for people who want the benefits of both formats across the day.
